Here is the list of compatibility macOS 10.15 Catalina Sidecar for your Mac. Earlier this week, Apple announced a fresh version of macOS, and macOS 10.15 Catalina has one function that is particularly interesting for iPad users.
Sidecar is a function that allows consumers to extend the desktop of their Mac to an iPad running the unreleased iPadOS 13, and developer Steve Troughton-Smith was able to verify which macs are endorsed.
While a wide range of Macs supports macOS 10.15 Catalina, the Sidecar feature itself seems to be limited to more recent or, at least, more powerful devices. Sidecar is working with the following currently available – or announced – Macs, according to Troughton-Smith:
- iMac 27″ (Late 2015) or newer
- MacBook Pro (2016) or newer
- mac Mini (2018)
- Mac Pro (2019)
- MacBook Air (2018)
- MacBook (Early 2016) or newer
- iMac Pro (2017) or newer
Not only will Sidecar enable users to extend their desktop to an iPad, it will also enable them to interact with specific UI elements. With Apple Pencil support thrown in, users could use the stylus to effectively draw in a Mac app once all necessary software updates are made available.
Apple will be shipping to the public later this year macOS 10.15 Catalina and iPadOS 13, and both updates are currently available as developer builds.
