Viber has released a new privacy-enhanced version that brings end-to-end encryption, hidden chats, contact authentication, and more.
The company says that the new services
will be rolled out globally in the coming weeks. The new privacy
features will work across Android, iOS, PCs and Mac desktops in the coming
updated version of Viber app.
The company also said that Viber’s
encryption will come with different  levels of security, which will show up in the
form of a color-coded lock on the right side of the screen where a grey lock means
you are fully secured or encrypted, red lock means there is a problem with the
authentication key  whereas green lock means
that you can additionally authenticate users before each conversation or to
continually monitor them to make sure the users are verified.
Other new features
  • Increased security – the padlock icon
confirms that all your messages – including groups and cross platform messages
    – are end-to-end encrypted
  • Hidden Chats – hide away specific chats so nobody knows they even exist
  • Contact authentication – a new layer of security allows you to protect
yourself further with a simple ‘trust contact’ mechanic
  • ‘Like’ media from the preview screen – click the heart to like photos and
videos even while you’re watching them
  • Reduced app size – Viber now takes up less space on your phone.

It is available for free and supports all iPhone, iPad and iPad touch running
iOS 7 or later.
