Apple has added native support to the OS for PS4 and Xbox controllers with iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. This makes iPhones and iPads great gaming devices and would greatly improve their overall gaming experience. Of course, your iPhone or iPad must run iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 since starting with this release, Apple has added support for the PS4 and Xbox controller. The good thing is that all games support PS4 and Xbox controllers, which means that the gaming experience on your iPhone and iPad will improve immediately after a controller has been paired with it.
How to Pair PS4 Controller to iPhone and iPad
- Turn On Bluetooth from the Settings app
- Press and hold the Share and PS button for a few seconds on your PS4 controller. The light bar will quickly begin blinking in white.
- You should see the ‘ DualShock 4 Wireless Controller ‘ appearing under Bluetooth on your iPhone or iPad. To complete the pairing process, tap it.
- That’s it! The PS4 controller has been successfully paired with your iPhone or iPad. You can now use the PS4 controller to start playing games!
With the RemotePlay app from Sony available on the iOS App Store, your iPhone / iPad will essentially become a portable gaming rig after pairing the PS4 controller with it.
How to Pair Xbox Controller to iPhone and iPad
Note that you need Bluetooth support for your Xbox controller. You can confirm this easily by checking whether or not the Xbox button is part of the controller’s face. If so, the controller will have Bluetooth. A list of all compatible controllers can also be found here.
- Turn On Bluetooth from the Settings app
- Turn off the controller of the Xbox by pressing the button Xbox. Then press the button on the back of the pair.
- The controller should then appear on your iPhone or iPad as ‘ Xbox Wireless Controller. ‘ Just tap it to complete the pairing process.
Remember that your console will not detect it once you pair your PS4 or Xbox controller to an iPhone or iPad. The controller will have to be paired with your console again. To do this, you must use a microUSB cable to connect the controller to the console.
Playing games such as PUBG, Fortnite, Asphalt 9 and others on your iPhone / iPad will be relatively easy once you pair an Xbox or PS4 controller with it. Apple will also encourage developers to create higher-quality games for the devices by opening support for PS4 and Xbox controllers. In addition, controller support will also play a major role once Apple’s own gaming service— Apple Arcade — is launched later this year.
