KGI: iPhone 8 to Feature with new 3D Selfie Camera With Facial and Iris Support

According to a new report from KGI Securities
analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, new upcoming OLED iPhone 8 will feature a ‘revolutionary’
front facing camera with 3D sensing capabilities with facial and iris support. The upgraded camera system
will feature three modules powered by PrimeSense algorithms.

The three modules include an infrared transmitting module, an infrared
receiving module, and the existing front camera module as in current iPhones.
Working together the system will be able to find the location and depth of
objects in front of it, potentially enabling new functionality such as facial
and iris recognition. It could also be used for some gaming applications and
future AR or VR experiences.

Kuo says the camera system “will bring an innovative user
experience”and iPhones may come with a similar system for the rear camera
in future.
