Key details have leaked online about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11 series. All three iPhones will feature the new A13 chip from Apple, rumored to be based on the upgraded 7 nm manufacturing process from TSMC.
The A13 platform carries the Cebu codename and the T8030 model number internally.
The iPhone 11 series will continue to feature a Lightning port rather than a USB-C port as Apple’s 2018 iPad Pro lineup, disappointing many.
Internally, the successor of the iPhone XS is called D42 (iPhone 11), while the successor of the iPhone XS Max is called D43 (iPhone 12,5). The successor of the iPhone XR is called N104 (iPhone 12,1).
An OLED display (3x Retina) will continue to feature the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successor, while a 2x Liquid Retina display will feature the iPhone XR successor. All three iPhones will display the same resolution as their predecessor.
The new iPhones are going to ditch 3D Touch for good. Interestingly, Apple will use a new taptic engine internally codenamed as leap haptics in an effort to apparently improve the haptic feedback. Apple could make up for the lack of 3D Touch with this new tapic engine.
In the rear of a rectangular hump, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successor will feature a triple-camera system. The design looks like we’ve seen so far in the leaked renders. An ultra-wide angle shooter is the third new camera sensor.
Apple will also use the ultra-wide angle sensor in addition to capturing photos to offer a feature called the Smart Frame. The phone will automatically capture the scene in pictures and videos around the framed area. After a photo is taken, users will be able to adjust the framing and make other adjustments to it. However, after a certain point, the data captured will not be saved and discarded.
The front camera on the 11 series of iPhone will also receive an upgrade and 120fps support for slow-mo recording.
