2020 iPhones Could Cost More Due to 5G and Higher Component Costs. According to the well known Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that for the 5G modem and other components the logic board space must be increased by 10 percent. Which can increase 35% component costs for the company?
Besides 5G the 2020 iPhones will comprise the new circuit component related to 5G antenna. As this takes more space than the existing antenna setup and 4G modem set up on the latest iPhone 11 lineup. The existing 10% increase in the logic board will result in a 35% increase in logical board fabrication.
Apart from the logical board, there are other components too used by Apple during the manufacturing process. But the logic board is remarked to be one of the most expensive components in the iPhone apart from the OLED display and A-series chip.
Kuo also points out that the 2020 iPhones will be shipped with a similar model to an iPhone 4 model. The iPhone’s new metal frame will feature “more complex segmentation design, modern trenching and injection molding techniques, and installation of sapphire or glass cover to protect the trenching molding stricture. As the metal frame increases the cost as much as 60% as compared to the glass casing increase by around 40-60%.
